Why We Like The Santa Cruz Megatower C R Mountain Bike
From doing laps at one of the ski resorts in preparation for race day to just cruising the trails in the foothills with the buds, the Santa Cruz Megatower is one of our favorite rides to throw a leg over when we have a full day of climbing and descending. The Megatower's 165mm of VPP suspension is ideally suited to drop the roughest trails we can find and still be efficient enough to climb back up and do it all over again. A slack 63.8-degree head tube angle allows us to confidently descend chunky, steep descents by keeping our front wheel ahead to give us a stable and balanced platform when the trails get steep. Size-specific chainstays ensure cornering maneuverability and agility for all frame sizes, and a new steeper seat tube angle, averaging 77.5 degrees, puts us in the perfect position to climb efficiently. The Megatower includes a Glovebox frame storage to keep all our ride essentials in the downtube of the frame and integrated downtube and chainstay protectors to keep our frame protected from rocks and chain slap. Additionally, a Shuttle guard on the top of the downtube allows us to through our bike in the back of our truck bed without worrying about scratching our frame, and the integrated rear shock fender keeps mud and dirt away from our shock for a cleaner suspension.
The R build of the Santa Cruz Megatower is an entry-level build but is still equipped with quality components that won't burn a hole in our wallets. The Carbon C frame uses quality carbon fiber to give us a stiff, lightweight, and durable frame with predictable handling and a lifetime warranty. SRAM’s NX Eagle drivetrain gives us a massive 11-50-tooth, 12-speed gear range to help us get up any technical climb and has a proven reputation. RaceFace AR Offset 30 aluminum rims and DT Swiss 370 hubs take the value of this build sky high and give us a race-worthy wheelset that is durable and quality-made wheelset. The RockShox Super Deluxe Select+ rear shock provides us with excellent small bump sensitivity and keeps our back end locked down on the most technical of descents. A Fox 38 Float Performance, 170mm fork handles the big hits in the front, allowing us to plow down the chunkiest drops without worry. Finally, Maxxis Assegai and DHRII tires are some of the grippiest tires on the market and give us unparalleled traction and grip in all scenarios.
*Due to a high demand in the global supply chain and bike industry since the start of the pandemic, material weight and exact components are subject to change. We are working diligently to keep tech specs updated, and any adjustments will be of equal or better spec level.
