The horizontal world is overrated.
You dream of a life lived solely in the vertical world where work is a couple pitches below, projects are a couple pitches above, and even the grocery store is a traverse away. If you're going to spend the rest of your life up there, you're going to need a comfy pair of shoes with a harmonious blend of comfort and performance. Despite its slight asymmetry and flat profile, the Scarpa Women's Force V Climbing Shoe is surprisingly performance-driven for how comfy it feels. Sure it isn't going to succeed on the steep overhangs, but it can handle slab, crack, and vertical edging like a champ. The Vibram XS Edge rubber sole assures solid traction for seasons, and the V-Tension Active Randing maintains a solid profile throughout. How's that for harmonious?

Great starter shoe, wide toe box feet
- Familiarity:
- I've put it through the wringer

This is a great neutral starter shoe. I have a narrow heel and arch but a wide toe box - most shoes are excruciating on my toes, but Scarpas seem to work out well for my foot shape. Used these for 2 years, 3x a week and the Velcro held up great. I like the cushioned tongue and around the heel. After awhile, the sides of the heel experienced “crushing” of the leather well after it broke in, which made it difficult to achieve solid heel hooks. But I now understand I wore these WAY beyond what’s typical without ever resoling them - because I just didn’t know! So I think they held up amazingly well!

Comfortable beginner shoe
- Familiarity:

I’ve been wearing this shoe for approximately 7 months climbing 2-3 times per week. Immediately it was very comfortable and fit like a glove. The fabric inside the shoe is softer than a lot of other shoes. I’m able to wear this shoe for about 1.5 hours without much pain. My complaint about the shoe is that it has stretched out quite a bit within the last month or so. Even though it was pretty tight to begin with, it’s become about a half of a size too big. This makes it a lot harder to step on tiny holds or do heal hooks. Additionally, it’s not quite as stiff as I would like. As I’ve worn them in, they’ve become a lot less stiff. All that being said, I still love the shoe and would buy it again. I would recommend buying a super tight fit if you plan on climbing a lot because they will eventually stretch out.
