Rapid XT blends approach shoe durability with trail-running agility for rugged terrain

What Our Gearhead® Experts Are Saying:

"The Rapid XT is my go-to for technical approaches and fast-moving hikes. The suede upper adds durability, while the full-perimeter TPU rand protects against sharp rocks. I love the Vibram® Megagrip outsole—it sticks to everything from dry granite to wet roots. The wide toe box gives my feet room to move naturally, and the secure lacing keeps me locked in when scrambling over rough terrain."

Built for technical approaches and rugged trails, the Scarpa Rapid XT is designed to handle it all. Combining the durability of an approach shoe with the agility of a trail runner, this hybrid keeps us moving confidently over rocky terrain, steep inclines, and long approaches.

The 1.8mm suede and polyester mesh upper strikes the perfect balance between durability and breathability, while the full-perimeter TPU rand adds extra protection against abrasion. Underfoot, the Vibram® Megagrip outsole grips confidently on wet and dry surfaces, and the ergonomic toe shape enhances comfort on long treks. With a cushioned EVA midsole for impact absorption and secure lacing for a locked-in feel, the Rapid XT is ready for whatever the trail throws our way.

What a great shoe! Bravo SCARPA. I find this to be a great mix of hike-ability but still functions very well as an approach shoe for more technical use. The fit is amazing. It feels technical enough for most applications, but is still comfortable for longer outings on trail or rock. So far it has proven to be very durable, with a great toe rand and good protection along the sides of the upper as well. I wouldn't mind if the lace was a little thicker, but that's a small quibble on what is definitely a fantastic new shoe. I would enthusiastically recommend this product to anyone in the market for a new approach shoe.....or a more technically oriented light hiking shoe. You won't be disappointed!

Best Approach Shoe!

This shoe is freaking awesome! It has a wider last similar to the OG TX4, stiff enough for hiking long distances with a pack, but soft enough in the flex to scramble well. The leather upper provides good protection, while the Vibram rubber is sticky on the rock, and provides confidence when scrambling on sketchy terrain. There is also a LT version that is more breathable, and a mid GoreTex version for more weather protection. This is the best approach shoe Scarpa has made in a long time - get a pair!
