Why We Like The Flyweight Access Wet Wading Shoe
River beds can be slippery suckers that can put us in pain—or in danger—if we lose our footing. That's why we like the new Simms Flyweight Access Wet Wading Shoe. Much safer than wading in our old running shoes, each pair features Vibram outsoles with sticky grip for slick river bottoms to keep us on our feet and on the fish. The shoes' high-top construction and built-in ankle gaskets protect our ankles and seal out sand, sticks, and gravel while the flyweight construction saps less energy on long hikes in and out of our favorite waters. That lets us wade for smallies all summer or target trout on cobbly freestone streams without worrying about our footing.

Not Grippy Enough
These boots don’t have enough traction. I wet wade for river smallmouth in Maryland and Virginia. These things just don’t give me a lot of stability in the river.

Very happy.
Great shoe overall. Very happy. Light, good fit, great lacing system. Great for travel. Great grip on tough surfaces. Good for rocks, beach and boat. Support is good for a light shoe.

DO NOT PURCHASE UNTIL YOU READ - too many shortcomings
Thick sole on boots combined with absolutely ZERO ANKLE SUPPORT combines for a nice pair of ankle breakers. Obviously anglers are scrambling over rough, uneven terrain and it seems these were designed as if we’re always walking on even ground. Factor in weak lacing system, a pull through plastic piece that loosens throughout the day, that lets your foot start sliding around and the stability falls off even more. Why does it seem impossible to make a decent mf wet wading boot? Weird ankle cuffs need to be strangling tight to keep anything out. You can see where Simms was close but Im convinced there is 0 testing of prototypes in their process. There’s no way a set of anglers tested this and said this was the final design.

pretty good choice for flats fishing
Bought these to replace my old flats fishing boots. I wanted something light but that had more support and all day comfort compared to zip up boots... I like that these are really light and pretty easy to put on and take off quickly. Good traction on sand, rock, coral, etc. and comfortable! My feet felt great at the end of the day. The plastic on toe and heal did great job. There is no ankle support whatsoever (i knew this going in but it bears repeating). The shoes did pretty well keeping sand out. Because they're not proper flats boots, they definitely show some battle scars- worn and cut treads, worn spots and a couple tears on rest of shoe. I would want something more stout if I was fishing in nothing but sharp rock and coral. Overall I'm happy with them. I didn't give them 5 stars because I think they're considerably overpriced (like everything from Simms now) for what they are (but hey, i'm the sucker that bought them!)

Best wading boots!!
The M's Flyweight?? Access Wet Wading Shoe is a fantastic choice, receiving a well-deserved 5 out of 5 rating. These boots are not only awesome but also incredibly comfortable. The incorporation of a sock drawstring is a game-changer, effectively preventing stream debris from entering the boot. On my initial wear, I found them to be exceptionally comfortable, providing excellent traction. These boots not only meet but exceed expectations. I highly recommend them for anyone in need of reliable, comfortable, and high-traction wet wading shoes.

Surf, flats and wet wading!
I bought these for wet wading, surf and flats fishing. Got to try them out in the Keys between Christmas and New Years and they worked great, worn with neoprene socks. Very comfortable and easy to walk in.

My new favorite flats boots!
I thought I would never find a flats boot that I liked as much as my old Patagonia Marlwalkers, long since discontinued. So much so that I kept using them well beyond their useful life, until the soles finally fell off. Finally forced to find another flats boot, I ran across these Flyweight Access boots and decided to give them a try. Although not specifically marketed as a saltwater boot, I can say after returning from a recent trip to Turneffe Flats in Belize that these boots performed really, really well. Features that I liked: -Easy on/off -The laces cinch up tightly and easily -The elastic collar worked well to keep out the majority of the sand -Very lightweight but still provided good ankle support -The sole is nicely rigid and held up well following quite a bit of wading in the rocks and coral -My street shoe size is a 10; I bought these in an 11 to accommodate a thick neoprene sock and the overall fit is very good. Minor complaints: -The heel loop that is meant as an aid to pull them on could be larger making it much easier to actually place a finger into it. -The “built-in lace garages” (the term they use to describe them) trap a lot of sand. Not a big deal, just something to be aware of. Overall, I feel that these are a winning design that should last me for many years.

Keep these in production!!
I'm not one to write many reviews, but had to for these shoes...maybe for selfish reasons. Simms has to keep these in production! They are by far the most comfortable wading shoes I have ever worn. As a fisheries professional, I go through several pairs of wading boots a year, and will continually come back to these. They're great for wet-wading, or dry wading. And especially good for use with a dry-suit...actually the only comfortable pair of dry suit boots that I've ever had. Well done Simms!

Extremely difficult to put on and takeoff
They are beautiful shoes, except for they are too difficult to remove and to put on. Also ordered a full size 2 small.

Excellent Boots
I actually got these to hike “The Narrows “ in Zion National Park. They were excellent. Nothing but very large slippery rocks, sometimes boulders to climb on or around. Always in calf deep water and sometimes up to my waist. They never slipped, and they were incredibly lightweight and easy to maneuver in that very rigorous hike. Can’t wait to wade fish in them. THAT will be a piece of cake!
