Chainsen Trail Light Traction Device

The spikes on Snowline's Chainsen Trail Light Crampon are strikingly similar to crampons used on mountaineering objectives, so you know you can rely them on steep, icy sidewalks. Snowline made this crampon a little lighter so you can trek up icy trails. This crampon fits most hiking boots and winter shoes to provide aggressive traction wherever you roam.

Ooof. This is not a crampon...

Familiarity:
I've put it through the wringer

I own these. But they're not crampons. They're microspikes. In no way, shape or form should these be referred to as "mountaineering crampons" or should appear in searches for anything remotely related to mountaineering. There is no overlap in the Venn diagram between crampons and microspikes. When you need crampons, microspikes are not a suitable substitute. How many more people need to be injured or killed before a class-action lawsuit is filed against this incessant miscategorization of microspikes as crampons? It's a legitimate public safety hazard. This is expected on Amazon, but here on Backcountry?! Please don't buy these assuming they're crampons, then get on snow slopes in alpine terrain that suggest the use of (actual) crampons. For reference, the attached photo is a crampon. That said... three stars; "Adequate for the job" (of walking on flat, zero-consequence terrain"). Microspikes are convenience devices, not mountain safety devices; don’t rely on them to save your life. They sometimes make walking on sections of a trail in certain conditions a little easier. That’s it. That’s all they’re for and all they can be relied on to do effectively.
