Didn't last the school year
Got this exact backpack in the mens version for our grade school son. It only lasted a few months. The mesh sides developed holes in from normal use - holding his water bottle.

I would not likely by this pack again.
Based on historical great quality and durability, I would have expected better interior craftsmanship on the stitches/hems/pockets. The seams have ripped after 1yr and expected longer use for price.

Used as a school backpack - does the job
I've had this backpack for over a year now. Definitely not waterproof and smaller in size but it's been adaptive to many parts of my life and intuitive in use.

yes
I used this bag for school and overall it's a fantastic bag lasted me for almost two years and is super great, but is VERY small on the inside. I can barley fit two binders in here, I can't fit a lunch or anything, I do not recommend this bag if you are planning to use it for school. ALSO when full looks very funky.

strap broke after one month!
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] Like the reviewer above me, my strap broke, but only after a month! I was on my way to work with a laptop, cell phone and not much else and it just broke. I thought North face products were reliable, but this is very disappointing. And since I didnt' buy it at north face I can't bring it back to a north face store to have it serviced. Instead I have to ship it back at my expense.

Strap broke after 6 months
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I bought this backpack for college (from Dicks sporting goods) and it broke after barely 6 months of use. I never had more than a computer, water bottle, binder, and a few small things in it. Never more than 3-5 pounds. The strap broke and fixing this issue has been incredibly difficult and costly. It's not worth it. I expected much better quality from the North Face. Also the front pocket design isn't great. Causes the bay to tip over a lot and it's really annoying.
