Why We Like The Thule HullAPort XTR Kayak & Canoe Carrier
The Thule HullAPort XTR Kayak and Canoe Carrier gives us versatile and fuss-free ways to transport our kayaks to and from the water. The universal mounting design fits most load bar systems while the rack locks into two different carrying positions— an angled, J-cradle position for one boat or a vertical, stacker position that fits two kayaks with a combined weight of 130 pounds or less. The HullAPort fits kayaks up to 36 inches in width and up to 75 pounds in weight to accommodate most budget boats, canoes, recreational kayaks, and touring kayaks. That lets us carry a wide range of watercraft, travel solo, or shuttle a couple of boats—and, of course, would let us buy a second kayak without needing to buy another kayak carrier!
On top of that versatility, the HullAPort XTR is also easy to use. The carriers come fully assembled out of the box, so we can mount them to our crossbars in minutes. For added security, we can lock them to our roof rack with the Thule One Key System (not included). A simple lever locks the carriers into an angled or upright position and releases them to fold flat when not in use, so we can park safely in the garage and avoid annoying road noise on the highway. The integrated StrapCatch keeps our straps in place and speeds up our loading process, and Thule thoughtfully included the load straps, bow line, and stern line that we need to transport one kayak safely on our sweet new rack.

Works as advertised
The Hull - a - port is easy to install. Takes a few minutes tops and holds my 10 foot kayak securely to the roof of my crosstrek.

Love the new attachment feature
Very happy with the new updated rack , the strap system used to attach the kayak rack to the load bars is a big upgrade from older models

Very solid product
Purchased 2 sets of the Hull-a-port for our Wrangler JK. Used the the Jeep brand cross bars and the Thule J hooks fit perfectly. Very easy to put on and take off the cross bars. Our kayaks fit perfectly on the Hulu-a-ports and are very secure. We paid extra for the best and we are not disappointed…would highly recommend and would buy them again.

Great kayak carrier
I have 3 of these carriers. They are solid, sturdy add-ons to my roof rack. One of my kayaks is an unwieldy 72 lb tandem. The design of the rack helps us slide it up on top and into the carrier.

Rock Solid
I Bought these racks for a 10 Hour trip to North Carolina. these things are absolutely rock steady. The steel Straps that attach to your cross bars don't slip a millimeter during transit. also the strap guide on the top bar of these racks are great so you can set the strap and fold it up without having to climb up on the car to do so. Very pricey as far as kayak racks go but worth every penny in piece of mind.

Hit and miss
Like another reviewer, I too have problems with the rack sitting flush on the load bars (evo). This results in the hull of the boat only making partial contact with the hull-a-port base pad. I assume these would work much better on the square bars vs evo. On the plus side, the straps are a nice upgrade from previous generation which uses a nut and bot to fasten to load bars.

Great Kayak Carrier and Thule Improved it.
The Hull-a-Port XTR is simple and easy to use. We've had one for years and recently purchased a second since we now have 2 kayaks. Thule have improved the two things that bothered me: the attachment to the rail and the clip to hold the tie-down straps. The new rail attachment uses a strap passing under the rail which works much better than the old pincer mechanism. On our old Hull-a-Port, the tie down strap would always fall out of the holder at the top of the loop, the new design fixes that problem by narrowing the gap.

Rack is good but could be better.
I got this product about a month ago and tested with my 10ft kayak. Overall the product is good but I would add extra support and cushion to the places where the kayak is seated on. You can even see it on the image of the product page. Since the kayak is not straight but has a bit of an oval shape, it is not seated 100% on each of the supports. I am a bit scared that if a get a bump on the road the kayak might crack right open at the spot where its barely touching the rack.

Quality Through and Through
I love my new roof rack and kayak rack systems from Thule. Service was good and the product is everything it’s hyped up to be. It was easy to find the right system for my vehicle, easy to order and install. I had a question about my billing and it was answered promptly. What they said would happen happened and all was good. I would definitely recommend dealing with Thule.
