door won't align to shut. difficulty to use.
The door won't align properly to latch closed. Mounting and using the RodVault 2 has been a pain. I regret getting this product.

Great concept but lacks the expected Thule quality
I have the Rodvault 2 and it definitely serves its purpose and provides the convenience that I expected. The issue I have with the rodvault is the build quality from Thule is not up to par with other Thule products, which tend to be over engineered and bombproof. The mounting brackets to the vehicle are the worst parts of this rack, they are a single bolt into all plastic pieces, including the bar contact surfaces. There is no grip on the bars so I have to loosen and readjust as the rack twists every so often from highway winds. There are no lock cores for the mounts and even if you do lock them with a pad lock through the provided hole, the mounts are plastic and anyone could walk up and break the entire rack off with ease. The rest of the rack is ok enough but does seem like it should cost about half of what it does. The tubes and reel box have no padding so make sure that you use a neoprene reel pouch to protect your reels from damage. The rubber magnetic strap does nothing so disregard that piece and the tubes’ fore and aft pieces are twisted when assembled. The lock core is not your typical Thule core, which is odd so you cannot change the core to match the rest of your rack keys. Overall, it’s a simple product that serves its purpose and keeps you rigged up when on the move but has much to be desired. There are other rod holders on the market that cost slightly more which seem to have the quality that this one lacks. When I replace this rack, I certainly will be upgrading to a different brand. Hopefully, until then, my rodvault doesn’t get stolen.

Functional but not normal Thule quality
The RodVault does what is says and what it needs to do. The convenience of being able to get to your fishing spot fully rigged and ready to cast is fantastic. I'll be giving the rod vault plenty of use. Assembly went smoothly though the instructions lacked any images and left a bit of ambiguity in the assembly process. My disappointment with the product comes from an overall lower quality than what I have come to expect from Thule. The front section of the rod tubes are out of alignment and results in a slight twist down the length of the RodVault. The Reel enclosure doesn't have any padding or protection which seems like miss. Importantly, the locking mechanism uses a different lock core and key from the rest of the Thule product line. Having to keep another key close at hand is a disappointment. Additionally, the mounting clamp does not accept locking cores and lacks the finesse of the rest of the Thule line. I'm looking forward to a ton of adventures with the Rod Vault on the car but would have liked to see the usual attention to detail that I've come to expect.

Great rod tube!
I just installed this on my Jeep Patriot and have used it a few times. It was easy enough to install and does a great job of keeping my rods safe & secure. Being able to show up to the river with my rods already rigged makes a huge difference.

Can't handle off-pavement travel
I bought two of these- one for my car and one for the pickup. The one on the car is fine, but for those of you that leave the pavement, beware. I had to check the mounts constantly, tightening the bolt that clamps the tubes to the mount. I forgot to check it for a couple of trips on rough roads, and one of the clamps rattled right off! Thankfully I had some straps that I used to secure the missing mount for the return trip. Also the design of this mount/tube clamp means that to tighten the clamps, you have to undo two other bolts to access the clamp bolt. So unfortunately, it is more labor intensive than just grabbing a wrench and doing a few turns, not to mention the risk of your rods jumping free!

Best Christmas give ever!
While my husband won't be able to use this before spring, he is very excited about it. A couple of friends have them and he really wanted one. I can't wait to see it in action.

Well made product that works great.
My son gave one to me for Christmas in 2020. I used it a fair amount last season and loved it. The spots I fish require me to load up and move in my truck to access different spots. Plus, when I pull up to the locations my rod is set up and ready to go. Saves tons of time. The way its built provides reasonable security but I will never leave them in a motel parking lot with rods in them. The only complaint I have is the rubber strap with magnets that is a kind of bungee cord used to secure the rods inside does not work well at all and the magnets come off. They can be put back on if you have them. I would buy Thule Vaults again. Very happy with mine.

Not 4 BIG Dawgs
I just purchased a dual rod holder and found out that my Orvis mid size arbor reels will not fit. I have to tilt the reel to be able to carry one rod. This does me no good as I purchased this to carry 2 rigged fly rods.

Can’t handle a bumpy road
I really wanted to like these and looked forward to getting both the two and four rod models. Sadly they weren’t able to handle the gravel road I lived on. They filled with dust despite being locked closed and punished the rods and reels inside. Maybe these are ok if you don’t leave pavement often. If you do, the damage to equipment isn’t worth the few seconds of time savings rigging.

Rod Vault 2 and 2 handed Spey rods
Clark L. 3/2/2021 Fly fishing here in Idaho with 2 handled Spey rods for Steelhead, fly rods to over 14' may need to be broken down into 2 strung rod parts. For travel, should they be strung and housed in their rod sacks before insertion into rod Vault tube? I found out that a 10'9" fly rod with a fighting butt fits! ! A 14' Double handle Spey rod does not fit since the Stripping guides will not fit into Thule Rod Vault tube and if they did, the 2nd handle extends longer than the reel vault.
