Why We Like The Vasque St Elias FG GTX Hiking Boot

Instead of buying extra moleskin patches for hiking the PCT, buy a boot that will give you out-of-the-box comfort like the St Elias FG GTX Hiking Boot from Vasque. Whether you're moving through moss-covered forest or the arid terrain of the Anza Borrego Desert, the All-Terrain Compound in the midsole keeps your feet comfortable with foam pods and a synthetic shank to push that 15-mile day to a 20-mile day. If it starts to rain on the 18th mile, the GORE-TEX membrane will keep your feet dry, and if you have to puddle jump across melting early-summer snow, the over-the-ankle cuff will stand up to shallow water.

A little research and good result

this is my first new pair of hiking boots in 10 years. I read and researched. After receiving these, I was prepared for a break in period. They are lighter weight than my previous hikers and I ordered my normal size. These arrived just in time for our very low temps in North Ga. All I had to do was put on some warm wool sock and I was ready to go. I didn't need a break in period. I am glad I found these boots. They are warm, waterproof and I am happy I found them and look forward to years of use.

Love this boot, runs a tad narrow

Familiarity:

I ordered this boot without ever having tried on this style or brand. A big phew that I love it! It does run a little narrow, there is a seam that could rub near the ankle line but a good pair of wool socks takes care of that. I have fairly small ankles also.

Great hiking boots

I returned this product before using it

I love these boots! I owned a pair for over 10 years, & after many hikes, the leather finally cracked, so they were no longer waterproof. I ordered these, & Backcountry delivered so quickly. I wore them around the house, & unfortunately had to return them. There was an area in the ankle that rubbed, & I couldn’t possibly hike in them, no matter how thick the socks. The return process was so smooth, I would purchase again from Backcountry. Just not ready to try these boots again. I’m giving these a 4 only because I had to return them, but they’re a great boots!

Never Received

I placed the order on the 14th of January and it said the item was packed and ready to be picked up by USPS. Called today to only be told the item was “lost” and that I’d have to order a different size since mine was suddenly out of stock or get a refund. Honestly just annoyed and the woman on the phone just kept apologizing in the fake “customer service voice” which just agitated me even more. Never ordering from Backcountry again.

Love these! Broke in easily!

I hesitated to buy these because there's so much variety in the reviews in terms of fit, comfort, size, etc. Regardless, I tried them, and I'm so happy I did! I'm an 8.5 in everything and bought an 8.5 - it was perfect. Broke these boots in slowly, walking a mile or two at a time, and now they're so comfortable and keep my feet warm on long walks and hikes in the snow.

Love it

Familiarity:
I've put it through the wringer
Size Bought:

I bought a pair of these in 2017 for my full time field job - I have only just retired them for a new pair this year (2022) because of a split near the ball-of-the-toes area (which I wonder if that could have prevented with regular oiling of the leather). These boots are comfortable, truly waterproof, and sturdy - and I'm going to try taking better care of the leather with my new pair to see if they will last longer than 5 years. Love these boots!

Great durable boot

Familiarity:
I've put it through the wringer

I've been using this boot as a work boot for a while now. They are very comfortable and have held up well against rough terrain. The vibram soles also give a lot of traction for hiking on steep hills and loose terrain. My only complaint is that the toe of these boots is unusually large compared to the other hiking boots I am used to which causes my toes to slide around while walking on steep inclines or side hilling.
