Astralite Quilt
A high-performance sleep system for obsessive gram counters, the Western Mountaineering 26 Degree Down Astralite Quilt comes to you with top-tier craftsmanship, materials, and an out-of-this-world warmth-to-weight ratio. As with the rest of Western Mountaineering's products, the Astralite's 850-fill power European down is untreated to let the large clusters and natural oils within offer sufficient resistance to moisture while trapping precious warmth. The 12D shell and 10D taffeta lining encompass it for an exceptionally high warmth-to-weight ratio and highly compressible design.
Cut with a performance mummy shape, this quilt is compatible with any mummy-shaped sleeping pad to eliminate uneven cushioning and restless nights. While other quilts suffer from poor design when it comes to their closures, the Astralite's bottom system snugly closes from shoulder to foot, while the top collar drapes around your shoulders to further prevent any disheartening heat loss. Plus, the closure system easily accommodates a wide variety of body shapes to let the whole family use it. With a total weight tipping the scale at barely one pound, this toasty down quilt compresses down to roughly the size of your water bottle for easy packing and comfortable trekking.

Bought a long Astralight for a thru hike in 2020. Used it for 4 years, hundreds of miles, and dozens of nights on multiple long distance thru hikes. I never washed it, or treated it gingerly. I used the hell out of it. My only complaint was that the fill would fall to the sides overnight. About 2 years in, I accidentally tore a small hole in the foot box because I truly treated it like it was indestructible. Leukotaped the hole, and still used it for 2 more years afterwards . Fast forward to 2024. I sent it into WM for repair and to overfill with down. WM calls me up and says that they weren’t happy with the quality of their products manufactured in 2020, and that they wanted to send me a brand new Astralight replacement, overstuffed for free! What a great company.

I just bought this and haven’t trail tested it yet, so I will return here when I have to update this. However, when doing a TON of research for this I wanted to clarify, because based on some of the reviews here regarding the condensation and the quilt pad attachments, I almost didn’t buy this! However, I’m so glad I did anyways. The company has updated their product since then and the attachments for the quilt to the pad are now mini buckles, instead of the drawstring toggles that earlier reviews mentioned. Attaching to the pad was very simple and really very easy. I have also read, and will verify once I go out on trail, that the company has updated the outer fabric covering this quilt for 2021 to resolve the condensation issue. They are also willing to replace the fabric from earlier quilts under warranty I believe. Also, I wanted to specifically mention that I am a plus size gal and this fits very well around me while attached to my neoair pad. It’s hard to tell from the dimensions listed here (hip girth 51”?) but the quilt is plenty wide- I wear a 3x clothes size, for reference. Price wise, I have seen a lot of independent reviews mention the cost of this quilt and I believe it’s true that while it is an expensive quilt when compared to others available (thermarest, EE, UCG, etc) this only applies when comparing size of a reg/reg quilt. When going up in width to a reg/wide or even reg/xwide as would be needed in those other brands, the price increases significantly and even more so when increasing the down fill to match WM standards. The products become much more comparable then and WM’s reputation precedes it- hence my decision to make this purchase. Very happy with initial testing but of course the real test will be on the trail in a few nights. I’ll be back to update!
