Why We Like The Summerlite Sleeping Bag

The Summerlite 32 Degree Down Sleeping Bag is Western Mountaineering's lightest bag with continuous baffles, ideal for backpacking anywhere from nearby lakes to the faraway alpine. This mummy bag achieves a phenomenal light weight through its 850+ down insulation, the loftiest down available on the market. Western Mountaineering wrapped up this ultralight insulation with a water-resistant ripstop material, which Western Mountaineering claims is the lightest downproof fabric out there. The shell's water-resistance helps the insulation retain its lofty warmth in moisture-riddled environments.

Over a decade and still going strong

Familiarity:
I've put it through the wringer

I own half a dozen sleeping bags, this one is by far my favorite. Buy once, cry once; this will cover the bulk of your needs. First let's talk about the quality - the is highest end bag I've ever seen, each detailed is perfectly dialed in. Hood shape is just right, the zipper rarely snags, and the continues baffle allows you to dial the temperature rating up or down. (You can shake all the feathers to rest underneath you when it is hot out, and by sleeping on top of them you'll compress them. When it gets cold, shake all the feathers so they sit on top of the bag - it's like sleeping under a warm cloud). Compressed size is also incredible, a little bigger than a nalgene bottle - when you pull it out of the stuff sack it's like a magic trick, and you think "all of this couldn't have possibly fit in there??" A note on the down - this is high-end 850 down, so you do need to take care of it. Don't leave the bag stuffed into a stuff sack longer than you need to, dry it out thoroughly after each use, and it'll give you years of service. (Note on down types - I have a few synthetic bags, but also a dry-down bag, and I much prefer the untreated WM down. Dry down for me is sweaty, doesn't breathe well. This bag - it breathes beautifully, keeping your warmer). Also a note on keeping your bag clean - get yourself a sleeping bag liner (I like the silk ones). It keeps the oils on your skin from getting into the down, and decreases how often you need to wash the bag. Overall - this is the best sleeping bag I've ever owned. Buy one. You won't regret it.

Really nice sleeping bag

Familiarity:
I've used it several times
Size Bought:
6-foot version

I bought two down articles from Western Mountaineering decades ago and so this was a bit nostalgic for me. This sleeping bag is well made and super light. I've used it on a six-day backpacking trip in Yosemite. The first few nights were really comfortable but then the weather got colder and the last two nights required me to wear my jacket and ski cap. I think I'll use this bag down to 40 degrees F or so, but not much colder. My wife borrowed it for an overnight trip and she was comfortable. We both like how much lighter it is than our normal down bags. It's a quality sleeping bag.

Yes the price for WM gear is always on the high side but their stuff is the highest quality and I dont think I'll need to update this for a long time. Super light and quite warm.

Excellent light weight bag

Familiarity:
I've used it several times
Size Bought:
regular
Height:
5' 8"
Weight:
150

I've used this sleeping bag in the Citico Creek Wilderness (May, 3 days/2 nights) and in the Wind River Mountains (August, 6 days/5 nights). I love it. It was comfortable during my May trip, when nighttime temps were in the 50s and 60s, and kept me warm in the Winds, where we had a couple of nights below freezing. It only weights 21 oz with the stuff sack, which is 20 oz lighter than my previous 800-fill bag.
