Why We Like The HoldUp Bike Rack
The trails around home will always be special, but sometimes you’ve just gotta throw your stallions onto the Yakima HoldUp Bike Rack and get out to ride some new dirt, ya know? Whether you’re rallying out to PNW loam, desert slickrock or New England roots, the HoldUp’s padded StrongArms will lock down your wheels (provided they’re between 20 and 29in), and you can slide the trays away from each other to make sure your bikes don’t bang together on washboard back roads.
Forgot the snacks in the back? No worries, just tilt the HoldUp down, even if it’s loaded, and fuel up for the second leg of the journey. The included Single Key System (SKS) locks secure your bikes to the rack and the rack to the car, so you can stop in for a worry-free cup of Road Trip Blend to fuel you on the second leg of the journey.

Solid family bike rack

First time with a trailer hitch-mounted rack. Came recommended by a buddy who’s had this model for years particularly because of its ability to expand to carry four bikes once our kids’ bikes no longer fit in the car. Install was easy. Only ding I’d give it is that the release tab can be awkward to reach when bikes are loaded (if you’ve lowered the rack to open/close your tailgate)…other brands have step pedal that’s more accessible, but also cost $200+ more. So far happy with this rack and look forward to lots more use.

Just what I needed
- Familiarity:

This rack is perfect for me because I only carry one bike in the back of my pick up truck. It’s rock solid and does the and easy to use. Works well on backcountry roads.

Rack finally arrived with broken parts.
I ordered the rack from here because of a 15% off deal. It disappeared in transit for four days somewhere between NC and OH, which I am sure is the fault of FedEx. When the rack arrived there were two broken parts, also probably the fault of FedEx. Also, the anti-rattle hitch bolt assembly was installed upside down, not the fault of FedEx. I am now responsible to hunt down the replacement parts form Yakima because it apparently not the responsibility of the store that sold it to me.

Broken 2X in less than 10 Years
- Familiarity:
- I've put it through the wringer
I've owned this rack for about 9 years. It's broken twice--the arms develop a wobble and get loose. The first time Yakima warrantied/replaced the arms after my LBS said they proactively sent out new arms. The second time, Yakima won't warranty them over the fact that I don't have my receipt. Moreover, they've been condescending about it my not having a receipt (which is odd because they don't have a record of sending my LBS new arms). Anyway, it's a rack. It develops a wobble so bad the arms will fall down in the folded down position and drag on the road. Also Yakima won't stand behind their product. Beyond those issues, it's not great for modern 29" mountain bikes--even with 2.35 tires.
