Why We Like The Lone Peak Hiking Boot
Aside from the fact that it's named after one of the most prominent peaks on the Wasatch front—our very own backyard—the blend of comfort and performance of the Altra Lone Peak Hiking Boot on both technical and tame hikes is what really won us over. A cushioned, supportive midsole keeps energy levels high until we reach the peak, while the Duratread outsole picks up the slack of tired legs with a confident grip on the way down.

Comfort over durability
- Familiarity:
- I've put it through the wringer
- Size Bought:
- 9.5
- Height:

I love the comfort of this shoe because there is not break-in process. I can hike for hours with little to no discomfort. The only downfall is the durability of the tread. This shoe doesn’t last long. It’s grippy when new but it wears out fast. Don’t plan on getting tons of miles from this shoe if you are putting in the miles.

Not bad but a little over priced for the quality of material
The boots were more of a dark gray than a black. I was hoping the material would have been more durable and less padding. All and all not a bad boot, but a little over priced.

Inconsistent sizing between shoes
I have about 4 other pairs of Altras, but this is my first trail shoe purchase. It's about a half size too big. All my other shoes are 7.5 and fit perfectly. Not sure what happened.

Run short
- Size Bought:
- 11
- Height:
- 5' 11"
I am a true measured 10.5, and I ordered the 11. The wide toe box of these shoes is well known, but I was surprised at how roomy these Altras are. Loved the feel of the toe box and wanted to get something to let my toes really stretch outward. These are the shoe I desperately wanted to keep, but they unfortunately don’t work for me. My second toe just barely touches the end of the shoe and would be a nightmare for descents in hiking socks. I think these shoes are great for folks with a naturally wider front foot, but they run short in sizing and I can’t get another half size up.

I am in love
This is my first pair of Altras, and I can't imagine buying new shoes that aren't zero-drop. I tried the waterproof version and was so excited about them until I started taking big steps and the material started making a terrible squeaking sound. I am so grateful there is a non-waterproof version so I can wear these shoes without the sound. I am definitely hooked and will be considering Altra first in all my upcoming shoe purchases!

I have been buying Altras for several years.
I wear them for everyday use as well as walking. They are comfortable with room for my wide foot. I plan on using this pair mainly for camping and hiking. I do like the feel of them.

Treads wear out too quickly
Extremely comfortable shoe-- good cushion and nice wide toe box. Unfortunately, the treads wore out after very little use. Please make with vibram treads. (Olympus 5 has bad reviews re ankle comfort)

Treads not durable
Incredibly comfortable shoe (purchased at REI) but no durability. I have hardly worn these and the treads are almost completely eroded.
