The Cottonwoods jacket is an all around amazing product. I've had a couple versions of the jacket, but over the years it has improved.(For the better) Speaking on behalf of the 2023 version of this jacket, it is perfect when it comes to layering because you still end up with a bit of extra room so that it doesn't look too tight. I typically wear a Backcountry merino wool base layer, a Patagonia R1, and a Patagonia Macro puff jacket. (If it's bitterly cold, I also wear a Carhartt vest) I bought a small, which is typically the size I buy, so I recommend getting the typical size that you always purchase. It is considered to be a little oversized, but it's not too drastic for it not to look sleek or overly baggy. I also want to note that I have the matching bottoms that go perfectly and perform to the same level as the jacket. I bought a size small in the bibs and they are perfect. The breathability, waterproofing, storage, and zippers are all top of the line. The only downfall is the double zipper to the jacket. I'm not sure of the purpose, but I just find it to be a hassle when you have gloves on and you can't line them up correctly to zipper the jacket up, but it's not a breaking point. The hood fits perfectly over helmets and the invisible cord system allows for a sleek appearance. A notable change is the cuff around the wrist. You don't have to put your thumb through anymore, but rather, it's just a regular cuff. This makes wearing liners for gloves more comfortable. Overall, this is a solid jacket that can be breathable and dry on spring days and can break the windchill on some of the coldest. I highly recommend this great jacket!

Quality material, but ill-fitting/stiff

I wanted to love this jacket. Color was great. Material was worth the price. But the jacket was extremely stiff and thus wound up being ill-fitting. Had to return it to get a different jacket.

Runs HUGE

I was so excited to buy these bibs, I've had my eye on them since the beginning of the season and jumped when they went on sale! Unfortunately, they were WAY too big on me. I'm 5"5' 115lbs and I got the small after reading the reviews about how they run a little big. I was looking for a bit of a "relaxed" fit but these were like a balloon on me. If I unzipped the upper part, the pants wouldn't stay up no matter how much I tightened the waist. I couldn't even ski in them because they were so big. They had the same fit of what I would expect from a large size. These bibs are also really really stiff, but I imagine they'll soften up after a few wears. SIZE WAY DOWN. Still absolutely amazing quality, just runs really big.

Didn't work for my size

Tried this coat in a medium to go with the matching bibs. Unfortunately the sizing for this set just didn't work for me . I'm short 5'3, 145 lbs. Want room to layer and move so I would normally get large bottoms and a med coat. After reading the reviews I went with medium bottoms. The coat and bibs seemed like great quality and I like the style but the mediums were too big - pants wayyy too long and fabric bunching out in the chest and back of the bibs, the medium coat was ok with layers but as mentioned the arms are long. Tried the smalls which were then too small - significant difference between these. I couldn't zip the pants lol and the coat was constricting. So, as much as I wanted this set to work I am in between sizes and don't want to settle for the really baggy mediums.

Bombproof, hood & sizing can improve

I moved from a Flylow Billie Coat to this jacket. I like how thoughtful the features are: 2-way zipper, goggle wipe (which i've modified to be a tether for my phone), removable powder skirt, plenty of pockets. One complaint I have is the hood - it's quite big and it requires cinching all the straps around the hood to get it to stay in place. And even then I still have a tough time keeping it on. But it's not a deal breaker in anyway. I did size down. I'm normally a M but sized down to a S based on other reviews.

I bought a new jacket, and it arrived with a dirty used snowboard goggle cover in the pocket. The jacket is okay, the pockets are good, and it is just a shell so you definitely need something to insulate under.

I had a 30+ year old ski jacket that I have been unwilling to replace because of the pockets and set up of my current coat. My current coat went on every annual ski trip. This exceeds all expectations and is an excellent option to start new ski memories.

When I first received this shell, I was put off by how stiff the fabric felt and was skeptical that it would work out for me. However, my concerns were unfounded because the stiffness of the fabric has not been an issue. What I like most about this jacket is that it has held up well and kept me dry in variable weather conditions. So far, I have worn it out as my top layer (over a thin, down jacket and base layers) on a 6 degree, very snowy day. I have also worn this shell on its own in a 40 degree rainy day. Both days, the shell kept me dry and served its purpose well. The hood fits over my ski helmet nicely and does a good job at shielding my face from snow/rain when there's active weather. I do wish the hood was detachable though - which is why I'm giving this 4 stars rather than 5.

Hey all, I am seeing posts of this fitting too big. I am here to even the score. I was debating on ordering an XL. I ended up ordering a Large which is my standard size, and its great, I can put a fleece or layer under it and it will be perfect! Exactly what I was hoping for. The sleeves are long but perfect, R&D please do not alter length of sleeve or length of jacket. I am soooo tired of jackets and shirts that only go to the belly button, not for skiing please. I want something that will keep the snow OUT and my bum covered. This does that! The only thing I could suggest is the thumb holes and inner lining could be a smidgen longer, but nothing for me to lower a star or discount anything else this jacket has to offer! I might be in love!

It is true that the sleeves do run long but that was perfect for me. I have quite long arms. The one awkward thing is the hood, it seems to just flop over the top and over my forehand and little past my eyes. Otherwise seems to be a great fit just haven’t worn it as yet in the rain or snow.
