Why We Built The Backcountry Down Insulated Jacket
Insulated mid-layers should be a staple in any outdoor wardrobe, and few offer better packability and warmth than the Backcountry Down Insulated Jacket. We designed this jacket with a super durable Pertex Quantum face fabric coated in a DWR treatment to fight back against light rain and snags from branches. This durable face fabric holds the warm and lofty 800-fill RDS goose down in place so that it can trap our core heat and pack down small when we aren't using it.

Pretty good, but not perfect...

The jacket is ok, the size is good and fits well (I'm 6'3" and have an athletic figure). There were a few loose threads, so I'm not sure how good the quality is. The baffle design is a little odd, with the seams going through: When you hold the jacket against the light, you can see those seams and a lot of light comes through. The jacket is very light tho, and I guess there's a trade off. I wish the logo was reflective. Would buy again when available at a discount...

Killer Puffy Jacket

This jacket has become my go-to for cold mornings. The down insulation packs some serious warmth, even in sub-freezing temps. I'm stoked to wear it on the coldest days under my shell this ski season, but it's been great for day-to-day wear so far. The sizing runs a tiny bit large, but I don't mind some extra coverage. I love that it packs down into its own pocket, it's really nice for traveling.

I’ve owned a lot of Backcountry branded products and most of them are fantastic! Looking to see if this year Backcountry finally made a men’s Teo ALLIED Down Jacket in black, I stumbled upon this jacket. With confidence I ordered it and soon it arrived at my doorstep. After taking the jacket out of its packaging I noticed it was lacking fluff which I assumed was due to being compressed during shipping. So I hung it up and left it for a few days to see if it would get puffy. Unfortunately, it only expanded a little bit and after trying it on, it felt a bit “boxy” in the way it was cut (I ordered a large) and because of the design and lack of fluff, the seams that form the baffles offer essentially no protection from the elements. For the price, this jacket is a bit expensive compared to what you might expect. If this product was on a steep discount I’d recommend purchasing it if you intend to use it for snowboarding or under a shell. For general use, I’d recommend the Teo ALLIED Down Jacket or something comparable price wise. It’s overall a very light jacket made with good materials, just not as insulated or fitting as I’d hoped!
