Why We Built The Backcountry Slickrock Pant
"Even with the slimmer fit, there's plenty of room at the knees for pedaling and pads. I like that the ankles unzip so I can adjust my kneepads when I need to." —Gearhead® Expert Sammy
Whether we're getting a head start on trail riding season or pushing into winter's grip, we never miss a ride thanks to the Slickrock Pant. We designed these pants with a super lightweight material that breathes with us when we're working hard, and the water-resistant treatment provides the weather protection we need. We updated the fit from the first iteration of Slickrock Pant to add more room for knee pads, and the zippered vents on the side seams line up perfectly with the thigh pockets on our bib shorts for easier snack access.

Curvy Girls Take Note!
- Familiarity:
- I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions
- Size Bought:
- XL
- Height:

- Weight:

Hips: 45” waist: 32”, got the XL. 5’9, plenty of inseam. Loose fit in the waist, fits in the seat, but does NOT fit my thighs. The ankle zipper is useless because it only opens 1”, and won’t allow me to get the pants over my knee to get knee pads on. I can fit my slim knee pads under but it’s tight, and the big knee pads have to go over. With the tight fit in the thigh, the seam that goes around the thigh just above the knee is weird and awkward — it looks bad once you start layering. Note to pattern makers: please update your XL model/design guidelines to allow more ease through the legs. Bigger girls have bigger legs, not just a bigger waist. Undecided if I will return yet, but these will be backups, not primaries, if I keep.

I really wanted to love the slick rock pants. Ultimately, after a hard decision, I did send them back. And this is why: the fabric is fairly thin, I ordered the gray and it was more light blue and it didn’t have a thigh pocket for my phone.

These pants survived a crash on rocks that destroyed my shirt but not my slickrock pants! 11/10 every mountain biker should have these.

Best Outdoors Pants

I picked these pants up towards the end of Summer/Fall 2023 and they have been a staple in my outdoor activities ever since. They are without a doubt my go-to pair of pants for a variety of activities, not just for biking. Some features that I really appreciate: 1. They are lightweight, perfect for those warmer days (65° and above). I haven't tested them in the heat of summer yet, but they held up great on a hot 90° day while backpacking in the Grand Canyon. I have put long underwear on while wearing these, but I don’t love doing high cardio activities in long underwear, so I switch to my Dharco MTB pants for colder weather. 2. The side vents are a game changer for me. While I wish they were a bit bigger, they still provide a nice breeze while riding or hiking if the wind is blowing. (Hey Backcountry, maybe consider making bigger side vents in the future?) I love using the vent slits to store my phone when biking with chamois that have a side pocket (Dharco makes the best chamois that have this feature). 3. These pants are incredibly comfortable. I can easily wear knee pads underneath, squat, pedal, hike, and even lounge around. They have been my go-to on hot days for just hanging out. Especially as someone who is obsessed with sun protection. 4. They offer great rain resistance and dry super fast when soaked. I put them to the test on a five-day backpacking trip on the Lost Coast during two days of straight rain. They got soaked where my rain skirt didn't cover, but dried out quickly. 5. Sun protection. I am pretty principled about my sun protection and I won’t ride in shorts or short sleeves. So these have been the best option for my sun protection obsession. 6. They have not stretched out. I wore these on a backpacking trip for 6 days straight. With soaking rain. Not once did they stretch out. To this day they still fit great. A few downsides to note: 1. I struggle to access my knee pads while wearing these pants, but I have the same issue with all my MTB pants. 2. The belt strap doesn't stay in place very well. So it won’t help if they are large around the waist. 3. The front pockets aren't very practical while riding, as they are in an awkward position for storage. I am 5’6” and fluctuate between 115 and 120 pounds and I am quite slim. My pants size is between a 24-25 or 0-4 and the small fits wonderful, with and without chamois. (In Lululemon I wear a size 2 or 4 in their pants)

I get compliments any time I wear these pants on the trails! I live in texas and we have some pretty rugged terrain and brush usually around the trails so having a super breathable and light weight pant to help keep the sun off my legs and also provide protection against some branches and prickly plants is awesome! I bought a size small, I'm 5'4" and fluxuate from 128 - 132lbs since having my little boy last year. I ABSOLUTELY love the fit, theres enough room in the waist so they dont cut you in half when leaning over I wear a padded short with these and you can hardly tell but fit seamlessly together. The only gripe i have with these pants is where the vent zips are on the outter thigh there is a part of the zipper fabric that itches me if I dont wear a shammie/ padded shorts. Its quiet irritating but I'm super sensitive to itchy fabrics so it may just be me or I might of gotten a faulty pair. Regardless, I wear these 9/10 any time I'm getting on my MTB. I love them so much and will be buying more colors in these and will also try the 5" shorts this summer as well because im not a long short gal. Hope to see you out on the trails!

I first purchased the Slickrock bike short and was so in love, I just had to try the pants… skeptically though, a pant for mountain biking??? After one sunny, but still chilly spring ride, I am in love with the pants as much as I am with the shorts! Perfectly designed with the features you’d want from a pant and a great fit! I am 5’10” / 190 lbs, up 15# heavier/curvier than I normally am, (but still taller than wider by a long shot) and typically a size 14, the XL fits very well. The waist doesn’t cut in at all (yay, who likes to feel like they are being squeezed in 2 by their waistband or have unattractive rolls above your pants???), they fall at my ankle and were large enough in the leg that I never felt a frustrating pull or stretch in the material, but they aren’t loose enough where I was worried about the chain, I know… they sound like magic pants and they may be! If you want a pant that can work for mountain biking, jogging, hiking, grocery shopping, whatever… on a day with a brisk wind where you want protection, but not insulation, and a quick drying pant, this is the pant for you.

I didn’t want to spend a ton on a pair of MTB pants. Got these on sale and am very happy with them! Only complaint is that they are a little baggy around the ankles— if your short. Certainly not a deal breaker though for half the price of other MTB pant brands.

love!

I read to "size up" on several of the reviews and in the item details. I bought a size small and they were too big. They were too big in every aspect, the hips the butt the legs the waist. I returned for an XS and they fit great. They are light weight and comfortable. I LOVE the high rise waist because I don't like low rise and I haven't since the mid 2000's when it was in style and I don't like riding a MTB with my navel out or my lower back getting sunburnt or mud all over. I'm barely 5'2 and about 110 lbs or so. I also love the movement of the fabric the 4 way stretch is fantastic and makes them so comfy. I hope they offer more colors soon!

I bought these pants and love riding in them, but what happened to including a pocket for my cell phone? If you need to keep the leg vents, you could move them or put a mesh pocket inside to hold a phone. I hope to buy another pair in the future with more usable pockets!

I’m petite and was happy these more or less fit. The waist does run small and extremely high on the torso. For the price, I was pretty disappointed that the stitching on one of the knees is already torn/coming apart after only wearing them for two rides. The backcountry logo was also peeling off prior to even washing them. All in all, they serve their purpose.
