Nice quality but run small

Just received these for a trip to Costa Rica and unfortunately will be returning. I ordered an XL because I don't like the shorts being fitted to my legs, but these definitely run small. They have a good amount of stretch so they could work, just don't fit how I'd like. For reference, I'm 5'7" 175lbs and wear a 10/12 in bottoms and am pear shaped.
