Why We Like The Big Agnes Prospector 50L Backpack
It's no surprise that Big Agnes is finally throwing their hat in the backpack ring, but we are shocked by the lightweight and earth-friendly design of one of their firsts. The Prospector 50L Backpack put an emphasis on refusing to weigh us down, so they made this pack light and made sure our gear would be comfortable balanced no matter the load. The Open Range Hip Belt threads behind the Load Wrangler back panel to transfer weight to the lumbar, and a cut-to-fit hip belt snugs up tight to prevent gaps between the body and the pack. They also added an improved compression system that pulls weight inward and upward for secure and positive load transfer.

Good cross between UL and comfort
- Familiarity:

This pack is perfect for the thru-hiker, UL weekender, or peak bagger. Given, the prospector weighs a bit more than some HyperLite/Ultimate Direction etc. Ultra Light(UL) packs. BUT this pack makes it worth it with the difference in comfort and support. I find the stiff back panel and multiple cinch points at the shoulders, hips, and along the back panel really help you distribute the load perfectly… which makes it seem like you are carrying less weight! After maybe a dozen big outings with this pack, I have found it might be the best weight distributing pack I have owned - even for loads up to 50 lbs. This pack is a quiver-killer, it is like the child of an UL pack and a modern backpacking bag, taking the best features from both. Highly recommend.
