Why We Like The Castelli Estremo Glove

With the right gear, we don't have to limit winter riding to a dank basement or crowded spin class at the gym. Gloves like Castelli's Estremo offer the coverage and weather protection for pedaling through those frigid months. The Estremo Glove is equipped with wind- and water-resistant WINDSTOPPER INFINIUM, another reliable technology from GORE-TEX that keeps us comfortable in unpleasant weather. A fleece lining keeps our paws warm and transfers perspiration to the outer WINDSTOPPER layer. And because connection to the hoods is just as important as warmth, weather protection, and moisture management, silicone palm grips offer excellent feedback for control and confident braking.

Warm, Almost Perfect

Familiarity:
I've put it through the wringer

Warm down to the low 30s. Comfortable, better feel and control than a lobster glove. Wrist cuff could be slightly larger -- can be hard to get around jacket. Not a big deal -- highly recommended!

Not As Winterproof As Advertised

I bought these gloves based on the advertised 23F degree rating. That rating seems overly optimistic. I need liners below 40F, and my fingers definitely start to freeze (with liners) below 32F. Nice gloves as long as it's not too cold.

Not impressed

I wore these yesterday for the first time. Starting temps were low to mid 30's. Within an hour my fingers were very cold. Fortunately, by the end of the ride, temps were in the mid 40's and they were fine. For this price I was hoping to find a glove that I could wear without liners, but no such luck. I don't see how they could be effective down to 23 degrees as advertised. I would return if I could. My next move is to go back to the cheaper gloves and just wear the liners.

Ok so far

Large

I’ve only used these twice but they kept my hands warm for a 10 mile commute in 40 degree temps. My biggest complaint is that they run big. I’ve always worn size large in bike gloves but these are big on me, so much so that they wrinkled up under my palm, which was uncomfortable. If I had had the energy I would have returned them for a medium. Oh well, at least I’ll have room for liners if I need them when the temps get lower.

Warm hands in 35-40 degree weather

May be the best gloves I have owned. Not sure if they could handle 25 without liners, but they are good. The cuff is almost too tight, but with the Velcro it makes it so that no cold air comes in.

2.5 hours on the bike with temps in the 30s and my fingers stayed warm.

Very, very good

Familiarity:
I've used it several times

I haven't had an opportunity to ride with them in the 20 degree range yet, but they were bullet proof in the low 30s. I was out for 2 1/2 hours and my hands were fine at the end of the ride. Previously, I had worn a cheap pair of lobster style cycling mitts and my hands would freeze. Good purchase.

They are not cheap but you will be getting your money's worth many times over. I have spent many hours on my bike with painfully cold fingers and toes. I tried many brands of gloves and hand warmers which all failed, so I thought that's the price you pay for cold weather cycling. Not anymore! This winter in Buffalo, NY we have had the harshest blizzard in 30 years. I wore these gloves to check on neighbours and dig out of my house several times and I often had hot hands! the windchill was -35ºC!! On recent road rides in -10ºC before wind chill) my hands were cold but not painful like they normally are in those conditions. They felt warm when I was fat-biking in -5ºC conditions. Now, if Castelli would just make socks..... P.S. I have big square palms

Not a below freezing glove!

Living in Michigan, I agree with the other reviewer from the Midwest. This is not a below freezing glove. Did a ride at 28° F and my fingertips were frozen by the time I got back to the car. Have to wear a liner glove for anything below 40 Fahrenheit. Very comfortable glove but may run a little small. Wear a large/extra large depending on company. The extra large was the fit for me

Size and design issues

Familiarity:
I returned this product before using it

I am a medium sized human and have always fit comfortably in large gloves. Not this time. They were quite snug overall and my fingers pushed up against tips of the glove fingers. My other issue was how they fit around my Apple Watch. They didn't. Even when the Velcro closure was left undone, the watch fit awkwardly and uncomfortably under the cuff.
