Sorpasso RoS Wind Bib Tight
When subfreezing temperatures come to town, the list of your basic needs moves into bold text with lots of underlining. Castelli aims to keep you rolling through harsh, winter base miles, regardless of the conditions with the new Sorpasso RoS Wind Bib Tight, which acts as cycling’s equivalent of a windshield and a deep-winter heater. GORE-TEX Infinium Windstopper fabric is sewn into the frontal area and thighs, providing wind protection for your quests down to 23-degrees F. Making up the rest of the RoS Wind is a mix of Nano Flex 3G and Xtra Dry to hold in the warmth while maximizing breathability and water-repellency from passing showers or sleet. Castelli claims these are the best tights fabrics they’ve engineered, and with sub-freezing protection that also breathes enough to perform up to 46-degree F, we certainly would agree.
Castelli uses the performance-tuned Progetto X2 Air chamois to help you with the extended base miles January requires, and the lie-flat bib straps with mesh backing add to the hours-long comfort you’d expect from Castelli. Low-light visibility is enhanced by the reflective calf stripes, which double as zipper guards.

Worst version of Castelli wind bibtights

I had at least seven Castelli wind bibtights over the past ten years. In the recent version, now called ROS, the top of the waist has been lowered, which contributes to the bibtights not staying up where they belongs. One a four hour ride, I have to stop at least six times to pull up the bibtights that have moved down so far that the crotch area of the fabric rides over the horn of my saddle. I do not have this problem with my older, non-ROS Castelli bibtights. I can't imagine trying to race with the ROS version. I am tall, with a proportional torso length, so part of the problem is that the ROS straps are not tight enough. I won't be buying these again, unless Castelli fixes this problem or goes back to the old design.

I just got these in the mail, tried them on and they fit perfectly. I'm not built like an Italian 12 year old vegetarian boy but I am rather short. The ankle zips all the way down to the perfect position.

Have ridden several hundred miles in these Material choices and construction are superb. I prefer these for warmth and for flexibility to both of the Gore Bike Wear winter bib tights I've owned. I've ridden them up and down long climbs in temps from 33F to about 54F and remained comfortable, though at 54F I did unzip the ankles and roll the legs into knickers. Now for fit. In slacks I buy 32" waist, 30 or 31" legs. My height is 5' 4 ¾", though before old age disk degeneration I stood a bit over 5' 7 ½". Weight is 136 lbs. In cycling bibs I usually have bought medium, though in some brands small is better. Based on Castelli's size chart my circumference at the hips is perfect for their small bibs. I bought the small. Indeed the volume of the seat and hips is fine, and the shoulder straps are just a bit on the tight side (which is better than too loose, to hold them up). However the legs are not long enough. Leg length is OK when standing, but when seated and pedalling the anterior side of the legs must stretch a lot as the knee flexes. Combined with the thickness and stiffness of the anterior wind resistant fabric I quickly developed bursitis above the knee caps (suprapatellar bursitis). Solution was to have a seamstress insert 2" of soft stretchy Polartec into the seam between the front knee panels and the front thigh panels. Probably I would have been better served with size medium, putting up with some bagginess over the butt.
