Aliante R1 Open Saddle
Finding the right saddle can often be a bit of trial and error but we've found Fi'zi:k's Aliante to be quite agreeable for many cyclists. Those who have used it and it works for them swear by it and it becomes their go-to saddle for decades. If you're shopping for a new perch or are a fan of the Aliante but wondered if a cutout would offer a little more reduction in pressure, we urge you to try out the Aliante R1 Open Saddle.
The "Open" moniker refers to the central cutout allowing for pressure reduction on your perineum. The R1's shell is constructed from carbon-injected nylon to save weight while allowing for a bit of give over rougher roads. Fi'zi:k's Spine Concept recommends this saddle for Bulls who are slightly less flexible and rotate their pelvises while pedaling. A rounder profile helps support the position but we feel that this concept is merely a suggestion. Most professional cyclists are as flexible as they come, at least when it comes to contorting themselves to a long and low position, and many of them prefer the shape of the Aliante.
The R1 also saves weight by using braided carbon fiber instead of K:ium on the R3 for the rails. The braiding provides a new level of strength against both the clamping force of your seatpost and the load the saddle bears adding durability. The Comfort Core foam padding is topped with a black Microtex cover that looks great, is easy to care for, and supremely durable.

Great
Seat was great but not soft enough for me. Just started riding again and I wear tri shorts for riding.

Bad cover
- Familiarity:
- I've used it several times
The fit on this saddle was great for me. I recently retired the Fizik 3D saddle because I found it too narrow and not flexible enough. The downside on this one is the cover. If you adjust your position on the saddle, the cover pulls at your shorts. The cover should be made with a smoother material. I am returning it and getting the Alliante 00. Should be somewhat similar fit w/ a better cover.
