Why We Like The La Sportiva Cyklon Cross GTX Trail Running Shoe
As temps drop and snow dumps on the mountains, we pull the Cyklon Cross GTX Trail Running Shoe from our closet. La Sportiva gave us an all-in-one winter running shoe with a built-in gaiter and deep, snow-biting lugs, and outfitted the upper with a BOA Fit System dial to get us fitted and on the trail quicker. Equipped with the GORE-TEX ePE Extended Comfort liner, this pair shuts out wet conditions, lets our own sweat vapor escape, and does it all without leaving forever chemical behind.

Great shoes but...
- Familiarity:
- I've put it through the wringer
- Size Bought:
- 42.5
I've logged over 200,000 lifetime running miles so needless to say I've gone through more than a few pair of shoes. That said, I'm currently logging miles at altitude on mountain trails that are rocky and sometimes icy and/or snow covered. These shoes really hold their own and dare I say exceed expectations - now here comes the "but" part - but they seem to run at least a half size small. I ordered size 42.5 (US 9.5), my usual but they were a bit snug and add to that the insoles in them were so flimsy I opted to remove them and put in something a bit more substantial... That really put me up against it, the end of the shoes that is but since I'm not a big fan of returning things I've simply rolled with these. After all, I'm old and slow these days and after so many miles, I don't sweat the small stuff, pun intended... Ending on a bright note, the BOA lacing system coupled with the zip up "closure" ensures these will stay on your feet (exactly how you want them to) and further, I've yet to have even the smallest rock or anything else for that matter get into these because when they're on, they're on! And yes, the traction is great and your feet will stay warm and dry in these... Footnote: While it was a different model, I was able to try on a La Sportiva trail shoe cut similarly to these and found that size 43.5 (US 10) gave me just enough room to swap out the insoles like I did with my Cyklons and still have a little breathing room...
