Great jacket except one cosmetic flaw ..
- Familiarity:
- I returned this product before using it
- Size Bought:
- Medium
I wanted to love my Mountain Hardware Alpine Down Jacket but ended up returning it. It is indeed very well made, fit true to size, in my case a medium, was very warm. My issue was I got the Orange and you could see almost all the feathers right thru the Orange lining. It was a bit less noticable outside with lots of sun but put the jacket on the back of a chair and it almost looked dirty. I get the outside lining is super thin and light, but apparently very see thru too. The jacket looked just awful....like it was always dirty with greyish feathers showing thru. I contacted customer service, even had to submit three pictures. After a half hour in chat, the rep told me these greyish feathers showing thru was NORMAL? and to return the jacket if I was not happy. Yikes how can they make a jacket that literally looks dirty as the grey inside really made what otherwise is a beautiful Orange well made jacket. I still wonder if I got a lemon but customer service as I say told me seeing all those greyish feathers was normal. Not good !!

Overall Great Jacket but want a more athletic fit
I'm very happy with this jacket, but it's not perfect. The materials and warmth are great, and I'm fine with the zipper because I read the other reviews and it's not hard to manage this slightly finnicky zipper. My only complaint is overall fit. I have an athletic build with wide shoulders, narrow waist and big arms. The fit through the shoulders is fine, the waist is slightly baggy and the arms work but could be a tad bigger. If I packed on another 10 lbs around my middle and quit working arms, this jacket would be a perfect fit LOL

Great warm jacket
Great fit, quality down, and just the right amount of it for a warm but not gigantic jacket

Sizing/Fit Again Is Wrong
Quality is excellent but MHW continually screws around with the sizing. Last year's Phantom jkt in slate blue color fits perfectly in Large but this year's model I bought in Orange (same size) is way too tight in the underarms. Why why why does MHS continue messing with the sizes??? It's so frustrating to have to return at my cost always for their mistakes.

Awesome jacket with style and function!!
Great jacket. Fits as described. Very warm and lightweight. The elastic cuffs are comfortable and great when wearing gloves.

2-way zipper kills a great jacket
I love this jacket -- excellent loft/insulation, light weight, very compressible for packing, decent wind resistance for a puffer. But the small toothed 2-way zipper takes 3-4 attempts every time you put on the jacket. Might be worth the trouble on a long, heavyweight parka, but completely out of place on a waist-length jacket. Kills me to return this jacket over something as simple as a zipper, but there's no way I'm subjecting myself to struggling to zip my coat in cold and/or dark conditions.
