Why We Like The Northwave Extreme Pro 3 Cycling Shoe
The Northwave Extreme Pro 3 Cycling Shoe, built for long warm-weather training rides, keeps us cool and comfortable as we put in our daily miles. ARS (Anatomic Reticular Support) technology creates an exoskeleton that adapts to our foot's unique shape and, along with the Powershape Carbon 15 sole, provides optimal power transfer on each pedal stroke. To keep our feet cool as we ride through the summer heat, 3 air-intake ports are positioned on the sole and mesh upper, while the X-DIAL SLW3 dials on the dual-zone closure evenly distribute pressure across the top of our foot for a comfortably secure fit.

So much to like
- Familiarity:
- I've put it through the wringer
This is my second pair of Northwave shoes, and found after switching back from DMT and Diadora, I'll likely stick with Northwave (I liked the Diadoras too but they seem to be be out tof the cycling shoe business or at least you can;t find them here the US). DMT were tight in the toes and only seemed to shrink. While this model seems to be low on inventory, I hope Backcountry will continue to stock future models. On to the shoes: Easy on and off with the BOA. Comfortable and well fitting. There's a mesh that helps keep them airy. but that doesn't seem to greatly affect usage under booties for the winter. One thing you first notice is if you wear bright socks, you'll faintly see those colors through the mesh. To me these are good looking shoes, and they aren't the same Sidi, Shimano, and Specialized everyone seems to have. They clean up nicely and easily too. Pic after 16 months of use (uncleaned)

Comfortable High Performance

These shoes check all the boxes; light, stiff, good-looking, comfortable, inexpensive. I like a little arch support and this shoe has it molded in the carbon, so no need for an insert. I have been wearing Sidi forever, and these are much less expensive, very good looking, and a bit more aero looking.
