Why We Like The Outdoor Research Foray Super Stretch Jacket

Whether it's a day hike or a multi-day excursion, we're packing along the Outdoor Research Foray Super Stretch Jacket, because we know the mountain doesn't abide by the weather forecast. Built with GORE-TEX PACLITE tech, this layer takes up minimal space in our pack while offering us optimal protection when gray clouds roll through. The seam-sealed, 2-layer construction shuts out moisture and winds yet lets our own vapor escape, keeping us comfortably dry, while the stretchy waterproof back panel ensures our range of motion isn't hindered. When we start collecting elevation, we open the side zippers to turn up the air, and when the rain seems to be falling upward, we cinch the hem and cuffs closed to make sure droplets don't sneak inside.

I’ve been using the Men’s Foray Super Stretch Jacket by Outdoor Research for a few months now, and it has quickly become my go-to shell for wet conditions. Pros: ✅ Excellent Waterproofing & Breathability – The GORE-TEX fabric keeps me completely dry, even in heavy rain, while still allowing moisture to escape. ✅ Lightweight & Packable – It folds down easily into my pack without taking up much space. ✅ Great Ventilation – The venting system (side zips) works wonders for dumping heat. ✅ Durable & Stylish – Feels well-constructed, and the minimalist design makes it versatile for both outdoor adventures and casual wear. Cons: ❌ Slim Fit – If you plan to layer heavily underneath, consider sizing up. The Foray Super Stretch Jacket is an outstanding choice for anyone who needs a reliable, breathable, and flexible rain shell for the outdoors.

Blazing Glory

I love this jacket, the fit, the flex, and the adjustability are all *chef's kiss*. I run hot and being able to unzip this jacket into a virtual poncho is awesome for venting when it isn't too windy (and when it is windy? it's not as hot!). Through almost the first 6 months of use, it's held up well, no complaints.

Versatile, Comfortable, Breathable

This jacket is a great improvement upon OR’s Foray I. So far I’ve used it travel and hiking in rainy conditions and ski touring in mixed conditions. Performed great in the rain, kept me dry. In the rain, I’ve noticed a lot less wetting out in comparison to the Foray I. Very great for windy, snowy conditions with a collar high enough to be nice and cozy in the wind. Jacket packs down to about Nalgene size. If I were expecting only minor rain and traveling light, I’d pack a lighter weight jacket. Jacket is very versatile with its full length zips, allowing for creativity with dumping heat. Comfortable enough over a t-shirt in warm, wet conditions. Hood fits a helmet well and cinches down well, so you don’t end up with a flappy hood. Hood brim is a nice touch, structured enough to be useful. I’d love the wait pockets to be a touch higher, or another internal pocket around the sternal area. The feature that is the star of the show is the stretch. I love this addition, adds extra comfort and adaptability with adding extra layers underneath. I have broad shoulders and this feature is a game changer for me, the comfort and range of motion is wonderful. As usual with OR jackets, I’d love the sleeves to be an inch shorter, but the Velcro cuffs are effective enough. Overall, great fit and comfort and great fabric performance at a decent price point.

Nice jacket/honest price

Pros 1. Light not bulky 2. Hoodie can be worn over a bike helmet, perfectly ajusted. 3. Good breathability 4. Good fitting Cons : 1. Not as waterproof as high end rain jacket. Some spots can get soaked up pretty rapidly, like 15 minutes under moderate rain. 2. Ergonomy could be a bit better (hem drawcord could be better positionned i.e in frontside of the jacket not on your backside...) 3. Water repel treatment wears off very quickly.

Great Jacket

I did a lot of research before purchasing this jacket and it was always ranked as one of the best. It is definitely a much better value for your dollar than arc'teryx. Haven't really had a chance to test it out yet at this time of the year, but it seems well made and high quality. I would say some people may need to size up. It fits a little small, but because of the stretch in the back it still works.

Great jacket

Lighter than my old Furio. Better fit in general. Just another great product from OR.

Better than the rest

Driest rain jacket that I have owned. The stretch feature is awesome, as I spend a lot of time rowing in the rain. The full length vent zips are a really great feature. I am 5'7 with a well earned beer belly and wide shoulders, and the xl is almost snug.

Lightweight and dry

I purchased this jacket and received it within 4 business days which was a welcome surprise, since it arrived with plenty of time before my steelhead outing to northern BC. The jacket itself is very light weight and packs down quite well. The stretch panel is a great feature that adds some welcome flexibility for casting flies on a Spey rod. The Gore Tex kept the rain out as expected, but remember to keep the pockets zipped up if you're wading past the hips, because it also keeps water in! One word of caution - these have a fairly slim fit, and I found the jacket to feel a bit small on my frame. If you intend to use multiple layers underneath, you may want to go up a size, especially if you're close to the top of the size fitting range. Also when it's needed, I found it necessary to use a ball hat with the hood, otherwise it would fall over my face.
