Why We Like The Santa Cruz Nomad C GX Eagle Transmission Coil Mountain Bike
From training for our enduro race to doing laps at our favorite downhill trails, the Santa Cruz Nomad is our weapon when the day calls for a bike that can do almost everything. The Nomad is an aggressive enduro bike that features slack geometry, a mixed-wheel setup, and 170mm of lower-link VPP suspension. The Nomad was designed to bomb down the steepest hills and still remain efficient enough to climb back up and do it all over again. With a slack 63.8-degree head tube angle, the Nomad provides stability and confidence on steep descents because the front wheel is out further in front of us. Size-specific seat tube angles, averaging at 77.5 degrees, ensure every rider on a Nomad gets the same perfectly centered position to be as efficient as possible on the climb back up, no matter what size frame we have. The Nomad's mixed-wheel setup takes its capability even further, with the efficient rolling 29-inch wheel up front taking care of rolling speed and efficiency. At the same time, the 27.5-inch rear tire gives us enhanced agility and a better turning radius. Size-specific chainstays ensure the optimal balanced and stable ride for all sizes, and a low top tube allows for more stand-over height to fit a broader range of riders. For bike park riding or the steepest and deepest trails, we flip the chip in the shock link, making our geometry lower, slacker, and longer for more confidence and a better center of gravity on steep trails. The Nomad is fitted with a Glovebox internal frame storage system that allows us to store our ride essentials in the frame's downtube. Additionally, integrated chainstay and downtube protectors keep our frame safe from rock strikes and chain slaps, while the shuttle guard allows us to throw our bike into the back of our truck bed so we can shuttle to the trailhead without worry about scratching or denting our downtube.
The GX Eagle Transmission AXS Coil build of the Santa Cruz Nomad features an electronic drivetrain, a coil-spring rear shock, and quality components at a more budget-friendly price. Starting out with the frame, this version of the Nomad features Santa Cruz's Carbon C frame, which is made to the exact specifications of Santa Cruz's premium Carbon CC frame but with a slight weight penalty. SRAM's GX Eagle Transmission AXS drivetrain provides the most advanced tech in the electronic shifting world. The GX Eagle Transmission drivetrain gives us flawless shifting under load, a near bombproof construction, and its same huge 12-speed 10-52-tooth gear range. Next, a RockShox Super Deluxe Select+ Coil rear shock supplies us with excellent small bump sensitivity and ground-gripping traction on the steepest trails. RaceFace's ARC Offset 30 aluminum rims allow us to plow through rock gardens without worry about damage, and a RockShox Zeb Select 170mm fork handles big hits up front and keeps us stable in technical terrain. To wrap it up, premium Maxxis Assegai and DHRII tires with DoubleDown casing support us under the heaviest of riding and supply unlimited grip when railing through berms at Mach speed.
*Due to a high demand in the global supply chain and bike industry since the start of the pandemic, material weight and exact components are subject to change. We are working diligently to keep tech specs updated, and any adjustments will be of equal or better spec level. Been riding this bike all year with tons of bike park days here in Utah, Washington, and BC. This bike makes me feel like a hero even though my skills are far from it. The mixed wheels are perfect for riding steep terrain and feel at home in tight twisty corners. The kit on this build is the perfect mix of drivetrain and suspension components. If I had the extra cash I would splurge and go with the Reserve wheels though. Typical of Santa Cruz, the frame quality, fit and finish is industry-leading. I've put many hard days on this bike and put it through the ringer and it still feels just as good as the day I got it. Add a lifetime warranty on the frame, free bearings for life, and the stiff nature of the frame and I have no doubt this bike is ready for many more miles of abuse. If you're looking for a big bike that can handle big days, look no further.
