Why We Like The Zen Pro Shoe
When Scarpa decided to upgrade the wildly popular Zen, their engineers looked at every aspect of the shoe and found ways to make it better. The result is the new and improved Zen Pro Hiking Shoe, and we are big fans.
The suede upper has been upgraded with PU-injected reinforcing for improved abrasion-resistance, while the cushy EVA midsole is now injected for longer life. The Vibram sole has been upgraded to the Spyder 2, which still offers great stick, but won't pick up pebbles and gravel. Even the fit has been upgraded with Scarpa's Sock-Fit DV system for the feel of a running shoe but the sensitivity of an approach shoe. Add to that a durable rubber toe rand, P-Flex footbed, and moisture-wicking Cocona lining, and it's easy to see how all these upgrades enhance your next climbing experience.

Mega approach shoe

A rock climbers dream for getting to the crag. Stiff and durable making the Zen pro a desirable option for your quest to find rock. The support from the EVA midsole is a crucial tool when humping loads around. The simplicity of the eyelets integrate well the durable laces. The vibram sole is sticky enough to boulder but lasting through tough terrain. Made in Romania with a focus on quality.

Based on comments of the new Lowa Tempest I decided to purchase this item. What a great choice. I replaced the Lowa with this shoe. I work in 29 Palms, CA, lots of sand and rock. I use the shoe on an almost daily basis. It is extremely comfortable for all day use. The stiffness is a plus due to the variety of terrain. Grip is superb. The shoe is not hot even in the desert heat. Made in Romania, far superior to anything made in Asia. The Lowa was made in Slovakia, also fantastic construction. The big difference of the Lowa's is the old version had a vibram sole. The Scarpa has a vibram sole. Based on the quality of this shoe, expecting to obtain a great life expectancy of said shoe. Buy this shoe at this price. Can't be beat. Oh yes, running shoes, a 10.5, this shoe a 11 (fits perfect) and Vasque full boot, a 11.5.

Early days but so far so good
- Familiarity:
- I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions
First pair of Zen's, was looking for a more comfortable shoe for hiking and climbing 14ers than my older Crux's. Ordered the same size and these feel just a bit longer. At first thought I made a wrong size choice but 3, 5 mile relatively flat hikes in and I think this was correct considering wearing relatively thin smart wool ankle socks. Very comfortable and feel beefy, certainly more than my trail running shoes. I think these will work for what I want them to and will update if any negatives after some more serious hikes.

I'm about to order my third pair of Scarpa Zen shoes (second pair of the Zen Pro). I wear them day to day 90% of the time. They are stiff on the trail, high traction in most circumstances (anything but wet mossy granite). Sole affords good traction on icy walkways. This shoe does everything I need: daily wear; tromping around ski areas; light hiking; mountain climbing (East coast) with 50 pound pack. Very valuable. They last about 3 years with *daily* use. I worry occasionally about the ankle support of a low shoe, but the traction, support and fit are so good I'm willing to make that compromise. My feet generally fit narrow last shoes/boots (e.g. dynafit AT boots). YMMV with wider feet.

Second pair. One of the best shoes I have ever had. Use them almost all year around. Excellent for hiking, walking, travelling or going to work. The only downside with the previous pair it last only 3 years of my abuse ;) We will see how this one will go. They are narrow, and keep your feet very tight (personally I like this) so perhaps some people may think they run small.
