Why We Like The Patagonia Down Sweater Hooded Jacket
We zip into Patagonia's Down Sweater Hooded Jacket to avoid the shivers on portaledges and in snow bivvies. Water-shedding fibers and heat-trapping down keep us cozy, while the elastic bound cuffs and cinchable hem seal out drafts. When on the move, we cinch the insulated hood over our head to shield our neck and ears from nipping winds.

Arrived with a pack of Orbit Gum!
I recieved the jacket today and upong trying it out, I felt something in the side pocket. Opened the pocket and it was a pack of Orbit gum! This is shameful and unacceptable that you are sending people returned/used items and marketing it as new! My first and last time using this site!

Great jacket
- Familiarity:
- I've used it several times
- Size Bought:
- Medium
I bought this a month ago primarily for a trip to Europe. I will say the hood came into handy on multiple days of upper 30 degree temps and rain. The jacket did a good job of shielding light rain. The hood on this jacket fits well and is very useful. I am 5’10 175 lbs and the medium fits perfectly

Great coat, but design changed no good

These coats are great, and very warm. I have a black down sweater hoody that I purchased years ago and still wear very often. I added the green color recently and was surprised to see that they changed the hem cinch from the pockets, to just one that controls both sides of the jacket.... this is not a good move and created a long tail that has to stay up inside of the jacket. Before the jacket could be evenly tightened and the excess would just stay in the pocket. Check one out in a store before you buy if this would bother you.

Poor quality control
This review is not about the jacket, it's about the one I received. The first time I wore it, feathers started coming out from a small hole. And BackCountry refused to replace it for me. As a matter of fact, there were two items in my order, and both were defective. They had to replace the other item, because no way they can blame me for that one. I'm so disappointed by the quality control by BackCountry.

A Classic

I have owned a Patagonia hooded nano puff (NOT this product) for about 10 years and that thing has been through the wringer. It was my first Patagonia product and has gotten me hooked on the brand. I got the down sweater (this product) for my birthday this year. So far I have warn it on dog walks (coldest was 6 degrees), hikes, and around town and it has done the job. It arrived with a tiny hole, but Backcountry quickly replaced the whole jacket for free. This thing is a lot warmer than my aging nano puff, but still remains very light weight. This down jacket is also more durable than a lot of the competition which I like, especially at this price point. The last thing you want is to get a tear in your favorite down jacket less than a year in from a tiny snag. I love the pockets and hood design. Would recommend!

WANTED TO LOVE IT, BUT...

My lifestyle is more Urban Explorer than hard-core hiker, but I have spent my fair share of days traipsing about Bavaria & the Scottish Highlands. I have generally had good luck with Patagonia and have always liked their products with just a couple of exceptions. The Good & the Not So Good- I have a Down Sweater Vest that is incredible. It warm, the fit is great and it has held up well over the past 2-3 years of regular use. I've found it to be quite versatile worn over a lighter mid-layer or when used as a mid layer under a shell/jacket for extra warmth. I've also owned two Patagonia Nanopuff Jackets, both treated virtually equally. One has been brilliant, the other began losing the threading between the baffles within 6 months. I recently ordered a new Patagonia Down Sweater Jacket and as soon as it was removed from packaging, noticed it was shedding down in several places- Not large bits, just a number of small puffs. This concerned me enough that I returned it and purchased a RAB Down Jacket instead, another brand I've had great luck with. Perhaps the Down Sweater jacket I received was just a one-ff, but I have noticed other reviews mentioning the same issue. I will still consider Patagonia gear in the future, but I'll likely stick with RAB for any down products. I'll leave a review of that coat once I've used it for a bit.

Warm and comfy; loses feathers fast

This jacket is super light and super warm. It also repels light amount of moisture and rain. A few annoying things about it, though. 1.) the hood can't be removed or put on when the jacket is fully zipped...its too tight to squeeze on or off without zipping your jacket down a bit 2.) this thing sheds feathers like no other down jacket i've owned. have not really put it through its paces yet so to see it losing feathers with casual, commuter use is not ideal.
